Every month on Past Offences I gather together blog posts about crime fiction written or filmed in a particular year. Santosh chose us 1976 for September.

        It seems from general opinion that the books got worse as they went along (mine was number 3 of 3) so you might be alright Rich. You’d have to nail me to a chair and set fire to my nether regions before I’d read anything else by him but I will be curious to see what you think.

        I enjoyed that one when I read it several years ago. However, I don’t remember anything about it (which may say something right there) and it was before I did any kind of journaling on what I read. So all I have is a four out five star rating to give you.

    I may be the last one to post his month. I did another historical mystery so the 1976 part of this is only the publication date. But it’s my favorite Holmes pastiche and re-reading it again almost 40 years later it still proves to be one of the best. The Giant Rat of Sumatra by Richard L Boyer
